Impairment suspected in fatal motorcycle crash in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY – A motorcyclist was killed and a driver arrested following a suspected DUI crash in Louisville on Tuesday night.

According to a report by WAVE, the collision took place at about 8:45 p.m. within the 7900 block of South Third Street.

Investigators with LMPD believe the driver of the SUV, 63-year-old Carl Maertz, failed to yield to the motorcyclist and struck him while turning left.

The motorcyclist, 52-year-old Gregory Ray, died at the scene.

Maertz was showing significant signs of impairment at the scene and was arrested on charges of murder, DUI, and reckless driving. His bond has been set at $100,000.
