Couple killed when SUV collides with car on Westport Road

LOUISVILLE, KY – An elderly couple died when their SUV was involved in a crash Saturday night in eastern Jefferson County, WAVE 3 reports.

The incident occurred on the 4500 block of Westport Road, where Louisville Metro police officers arrived at the scene at about 5 p.m.  Investigators said it happened as 82-year-old George Herbig and 76-year-old Margaret Herbig were in their SUV and trying to turn from Ambridge Drive onto Westport Road. As their vehicle turned, it collided with a passenger car that was heading west on Westport Road.

George and Margaret Herbig were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The wreck is under investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department Traffic Unit.
