LOUISVILLE, KY – A woman was fatally struck when she stopped to help with a prior DUI crash on the Dixie Highway late Monday night, WAVE reports.

The initial crash occurred at about 11 p.m. as the driver of a truck made an abrupt U-turn near the Gene Snyder Freeway. A second vehicle attempted to swerve out of the path of the truck and crashed into a nearby ditch.

A witness to the crash, 50-year-old Angela Cecil, of Radcliff, was crossing the freeway to assist the victim when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Cecil suffered fatal injuries as a result.

The driver responsible for the first accident was taken into custody and charged with DUI. No charges have been filed against the driver who struck Cecil.
